Tooth Crowns in Atlanta

Are broken or damaged teeth causing you discomfort? If so, a tooth crown in Atlanta may help you repair your smile.

What Is a Dental Crown?

When a tooth is so damaged that a filling cannot save it, dentists often recommend a dental crown. These appliances are tooth-shaped and fit over the damaged tooth much like a cap; because of this, some dentists even refer to crowns as dental caps. A tooth cap can be used after a root canal to replace missing sections of the teeth, but they also work well when repairing discolored or misshapen teeth. Call us now to explore your tooth crown options.

What Type of Dentist Provides Crowns?

Tooth crowns are considered a routine dental service, so most general dentist practices provide them. If you have a cracked or decayed tooth, call us now to discover whether a dental crown is best for you.

What Are the Different Styles of Dental Crowns?

Crowns for teeth are custom-made in a dental lab to perfectly replicate your natural tooth. Here are some of the tooth crown choices available at our office.

Ceramic Crowns

If a front tooth crown is necessary, our dentists may recommend a ceramic crown. These crowns feature a porcelain-based filling and can blend easily with the surrounding teeth. To place this type of crown, a small portion of the damaged tooth may need to be removed.

Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal Crowns

A durable metal structure serves as the support for a porcelain crown, making them less prone to leakage or recurring tooth decay. Dentists typically remove a moderate amount of the decayed or cracked tooth when placing porcelain crowns.

Gold Crowns

Stable and strong, gold crowns are created by fusing gold with other types of metals. A gold crown tooth provides a unique appearance while remaining gentle on the adjacent teeth.

What Is the Process for Obtaining Crowns?

Most people will require two visits to our dental practice to receive a dental crown. However, if your dentist determines that additional procedures are necessary, you may need to visit our office more frequently.

During your initial dental crown appointment, one of our dentists will analyze the affected tooth and determine what type of crown is best for you. Then, impressions will be taken of the tooth to serve as the template for the permanent crown. Your dentist may also need to file down areas of the tooth to make room for the appliance. You’ll receive a prefabricated crown to wear temporarily until the final crown is completed. The dentist will fit your final crown at a second appointment.

What Is the Cost of a Dental Crown?

Our dentists determine the cost of a dental crown procedure using several factors: the style of crown chosen, your insurance coverage, and the required preparatory dental work. An estimate of the total dental crown cost will be provided at your consultation.

How Can I Take Care of My Dental Crowns?

Proper oral hygiene is essential for your natural teeth – and it’s also important for dental crowns. Regular brushing and flossing along with timely professional cleanings can keep your crowns looking and feeling great for several years.
